CTET Career After having cleared the CTET, the person can apply to relevant teacher vacancies in schools and undergo selection procedure for appointment. Persons who have qualified CTET are eligible to apply for teacher positions to classes I to VIII in : Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc) Schools Schools under administrative control of Union Territories of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi Un-aided private schools, who choose to use it as an eligibility criteria for their teacher recruitment Schools owned and managed by the State Government/ local bodies and aided schools, if the State Government does not conduct the State TET. Schools affiliated to CBSE have also been mandated to appoint only those persons as teachers to teach classes I to VIII, who have passed the CTET / State TET. The teacher positions that require the person to be CTET qualified are categorized into two groups: Primary Teachers : those who are eligible to teach classes I to V on the basis of qualifying CTET Paper I, and Elementary Teachers : those who are eligible to teach classes VI to VIII on the basis of qualifying CTET Paper II. Further, the candidates have to choose the domain in which they wish to teach – Mathematics and Science or Social Studies. Based on the choice, the candidate needs to apply and take the relevant subject in the CTET paper II exam. Those who intend to teach in subjects other than these two, may take up any of the two options for the purpose of qualifying CTET. Exam Eligibility Every year CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is responsibly conducted by CBSE. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has given Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the task of conducting the exam for the purpose of appointing teachers for teaching class I to VIII. Under the instructions of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the important qualification to be a teacher for class I to VIII is to pass the CTET entrance exam. If you aspire to be a part of the noble profession of teaching, knowing about the eligibility criteria is a must. To fit into the qualifying criteria is a pre-requisite to apply for any exam. The eligibility criteria are set up by the NCTE with regards to minimum education qualification. Below is the detailed information regarding the qualifications required to be a teacher:- For Primary Stage (Class I-V) Minimum 50% marks in senior secondary school or equivalent examination, along with a 2-year diploma in Elementary Education. In accordance with the NCTE norms, 45% marks in senior secondary school examination with a 2-year diploma in Elementary Education. Candidates belonging to the reserved categories are allowed to get a relaxation of 5% marks in minimum educational qualification eligibility criteria. Diploma/Degree course in teacher education will be considered only if NCTE recognizes them. In the case of Diploma in Special Education or B.Ed. in Special Education, only the course acknowledged by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be taken into consideration. A person with the qualification of D.Ed. (Special education) needs to go for six months training after the appointment. The training period is termed as Special Programme in Elementary Education. The qualifications mentioned above are for those applying to teach Languages, Social Studies/Social Science, Mathematics, and Science.
