On behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET). UGC NET is conducted twice a year in order to select candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. As per media reports, from 2018 onwards UGC NET will be conducted once a year.
UGC NET ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree exams (in streams such as Humanities, Social Science, Electronic Science, Computer Science & Applications, etc) from a UGC recognised college/ university fulfill UGC NET 2018 eligibility criteria. It may be noted minimum percentage required to meet UGC NET eligibility criteria for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD categories is 50%.Students are put through intensive MCQ’s practice by mode of regular worksheets followed by extensive doubt clearing sessions.
UGC PAPER PATTERN
CBSE UGC NET exam pattern till 2017 was such that it was conducted in three sessions wherein candidates had to appear for three different papers. However, from 2018 UGC NET exam pattern is changed. Going forward, candidates have to appear for two papers only. JRF and Assistant Professor/ Assistant Professor positions will be given to candidates basis their performance in two papers. However, it may be noted that only 6% of the candidates clearing UGC NET exam are declared eligible for the post of Assistant Professor. Also, the reservation policy for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates is applied to this 6%.
Going forward, UGC NET will consist of two different papers (Paper I, II) conducted in two sessions. Candidates will need to appear for these two papers in order to be eligible for JRF and Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor only.
